Salmon and roe

I butchered a salmon!!! I watched a video on YouTube. I cut it open and it was pregnant! Spawning season is in Late September and early October- in Issaquah there is a festival called salmon days in early October. You can go to the fish farms and watch the salmon jumping the ladders. I had checked out some salmon books out at the library last week to prepare.
This afternoon we went to a birthday party down the street. My good friend Pete's grandson turned 3. When we returned home my next door neighbor had left a giant salmon hen on ice in my sink.
It was a fun new experience. I saved the roe in the fridge and after a walk to trader joes to pick up some cream cheese and gluten free savory thin crackers I rinsed and soaked the toe in brine for 30 minutes. Then we all noshed on salmon caviar.
I added kimchi to mine because I like to spice it up. I put the rest in a jar so I can eat some more tomorrow.
