pregnancy- and not watching the scale

this is my eigth pregnancy and as far as weight gain is concerned is the MOST abnormal.
normal for me-
my pre-pregnancy weight is 150.
i gain 50 lbs.
at delivery i typically weigh 200.
within a year i am back to 150.

during jedidiah's pregnancy i was in school so every spare moment i had i was doing homework, case studies, histology drawings, lab reports, studying, etc. i wasn't exercising and our family was eating more conveniently pre-prepared meals. i got up to 210 with him, and he was only 5ish lbs when he was born!
we conceived in march and at that time i had only brought the scales down to 184. i was curious about weight gain- how would it happen? would i gain 50 again like the other pregnancies? that would put me at...what? 234?
during my appointments i made mental notes during the weigh ins. i wasn't gaining weight- but my bump was growing! i was confused and a little worried(pregnant people worry- ok?)
i did a search on google for "pregnancy weight gain based on BMI". i wanted to see where on the scale i would end up. was i healthy? should i be eating more? less? is this baby going to be ok with me not gaining pounds and pounds?
so in my normal pregnancy i would start at a BMI of 20.9 which is considered normal. the little chart suggested i gain between 25 and 35 pounds. but i have learned to trust my body and let it do it's thing because it always seems to find itself back at 150.
but with this pregnancy everything is so new and different. i wondered what i would be suggested and whether my body would do it's thing and hopefully find it's way back.
i started this pregnancy at a BMI of 25.7 which is considered overweight. the chart suggested i gain 15-25 lbs and i feel pretty good that i am close to that. so far i have gained 14 lbs. so i am fairly certain- no matter what weight i start pregnancy out with, my body will gain the necessary weight to support the baby. with all this confidence- why am i still watching the scale at every appointment?

I googled the same search with my last pregnancy. I think all pregnant women watch the scale.:) I am about your size and have roughly gained about 50 pounds with each of my 5 pregnacies including a twin pregnancy. I think our bodies just gain what is needed despite our best efforts to control weight gain. I bet you will end up around the same ending weight that you have with your other pregnancies. Praying for a safe natural delivery for you and a healthy baby.

All I can say is I WISH I could say I've had this problem. But, no. I usually gain about 60 pounds. I do usually lose the baby weight, but I have typically started each pregnancy heavier than I started the previous pregnancy. With this pregnancy I was really excited because it is the first pregnancy where I had my thyroid medication and I was able to exercise through the first 2 trimesters. I thought maybe this time I wouldn't gain so much weight... wrong. Hello 60 pounds. Now I have to work my way back again. Sigh.

Oh Liz! Sounds JUST like what I do. I always gain 50-55. But I ate very very healthy, no sugar etc... I lost it ALL adn then some. I always hovered around 154. I deliver at 200-210! However with sebastian, born at 34 w, he weighed my least of course 6 pounds. I am still struggling to get the belly fat off! I have no idea except that I am now 41! IT is driving me crazy. I have like 15-20 pounds to get off. We beat our selves up dont we? Your beautiful and healthy liz. AND YOUR YOUNG still! Enjoy every minute!
Love you
lisa

I must be abnormal - I am actually the complete opposite when I am pregnant. With all 5 of my pregancies, I lost weight and walked out of the hospital a minimum of 20 lbs lighter than my prepregnant weight and all my babies were over 8 and a half lbs! I didn't try to lose weight at all, my body just gave everything plus some to the baby.
Now when I am nursing, I am hungry all the time and then I usually gain back the weight that I lost.
