Scythian came to town to play the Wintergrass 2016 bluegrass festival here in Bellevue.
So much good fun and music and lots of dancing. I woke up Saturday and Sunday morning feeling hung over despite drinking just water between dancing. I was told by Dan that I was "sungover"- that sounds right.
I think I have finally recovered today.
I'm compiling q wintergrass playlist that I will probably share at a later date, if you behave and have good manners.
So many good memories.
The first song during scythian's Friday night set and a guy asked me if I could swing. Oh my goodness was that fun! I kept getting hung up at first, and I apologized and told him I was accustomed to leading. And he said "just relax, I'll take care of you". And just like that I was flying around and loving it. Then at the end he threw me into the deepest dip finale that I've ever experienced, I actually screamed.
Saturday morning we picked Dan up at the hotel and took him back to our house to hang out and eat lunch. He wanted to see John in "his natural habitat". John showed him his toys and told him stories. Dan got to read John a book he sent- "the wonder ring". It's q really cool book of paper cut silhouettes with no words but is easily decipherable as it follows a typical fairy tale pattern of magic, integrity, and chivalry.
Then Saturday night Scythian had the next to last set. We got there early so we could catch a few bands- notable bands were Seldom Scene and Väsen.
We also loved Dustbowl Revival, Bumper Jacksons, and Mustered Courage.
After scythian's set we stopped for a bit to get the band to sign our shirts and then we went right back to dancing.
I really enjoyed walking through from ballroom to ballroom(it was held at the Hyatt downtown)and seeing all the people jamming in the hallways. It was like the Athens Alabama fiddler's convention minus plywood buck dancing.
Dan got video of a bassist and a guitar player offering live elevator music at 3 am Saturday morning! They were playing "all of me"- a Billie Holiday song that I've loved.
In the hallways there were plenty of vendors selling beautiful instruments and musical paraphernalia. Samantha got to try a rayco resophonic guitar. It was so intoxicating- the crystal sound that came out of it.
All in all it was a fabulous weekend and we are definitely looking forward to Wintergrass 2017.
I'm trying to put together an iMovie of the weekend. If I can get organized I'll post it.
