The evening of July 4th we went to Chris's office in downtown Bellevue and went up to the 7th floor where we could overlook the downtown park. They have a "Rec room" with a coke freestyle machine and a popcorn popper. They replaced the ping pong table with an x-box and they also have giant binoculars you can use to see Seattle across lake Washington.
The big kids set up in the rec room. Chris's coworker was set up with his little kids in the big conference room next door, watching a movie on the big presentation screen. To get from the rec room to the big conference room you have to walk through a pass locked door and the reception area(that has an automatic jelly bean dispenser). Doesn't it sound like a great place for a diabetic to work???
Both the pass protected door and the door to the big conference room are glass- and the walls that the doors are cut into are glass in both situations as well.
Before Chris's coworker turned the movie on - the kids were playing tag and running around. John had his balance bike and was scooting about everywhere(we thought we'd dare to try the downtown park and the balance bike was our "here, now you won't get tired of walking").
It was all getting a bit chaotic when Alice runs headlong into the pass protected door- I suppose trying to get to the rec room and her older, more sedentary siblings.
After making sure she was ok we thought "oh, surely she has learned her lesson and won't do that again"
Not five minutes later she does it again.
I set the stroller up in front of the pass protected door and think "there- that ought to do it"
The little kids got set up watching their movie- "home" I believe- and the adults, (chris's coworker and wife and chris and I) sat on the chairs in the reception area and talked about how hot it was(truth), kids, school, and work. We were just getting comfortable and having a good time when Alice again <#*WHAM*#>. Into the wall of the conference room.
I comforted her and then found a post-it note pad on the receptionist's desk. I went along both walls and doors and posted notes about knee height on me so she would know it was a wall.
But- for the rest of the night, she walked so cautiously around - as if a wall was going to up and surprise her at any given step.
The picture is from yesterday- the bruise that has formed on her forehead.
