recorders

this conversation happened sometime yesterday...

samantha- i've heard the story 'frog prince' and it didn't go like that!

max- the one at grandma's house?

samantha- yeah it was on one of those recorders

max- yeah those giant disc thingies.

samantha- yeah and they have this thing that you lay on it and it
scratches it around in a circle.

me- bake the hall in the candle of her brain.

max and samantha- YEAH!

(the muppets version of frog prince on LP record)

yeah- i am old. my first cd was purchased in high school. fugees-
the score, or was it the dangerous minds sound track? closely
followed by outlast aquimini. but my musical childhood was influenced
by records. my dad and mom owned LOTS of records. and my dad used to
illustrate how very different their interests were by saying "and not
one of my records was duplicated in her collection!"
my favorite records were recognized before I could even read- the
bongo drum one- it was white and had a giant black "O" on it, the
singing nun "Dominique-O Nique O Nique!", hooked on swing- black with
neon music symbol on a neon staff(what is the name for that thing- not
an ampersand), marching band tunes- with a (shock)marching ban on
front, traditional navy songs- with a destroyer or some such ship on
front, the chipmunks do the beatles- with the chipmunks and dave in
black shag haircuts, this spanish montessori lesson record- cover
looked interesting but it quickly got boring, the scary sounds record-
with a haunted house on the front, and of course- the muppets frog
prince record.
"have another pop-over froggie!"
"n i'm ineteen n i'm ineteen. by mirthdays dotay- a gig burl a loman
a wady, sey thay."
