It's spring once again. The kids have stumbled upon a nest of tent caterpillars. They are conducting all sorts of experiments with them. What do they eat? Grass, dirt, leaves? Do they drink water? Do they like the sun or prefer shade?
It makes me think that in the early grades there is no science curriculum better than the outdoors.
With kids lives sucked up by institutional learning they have NO time to be outside.
When the kids were in public school I would be inside cleaning and look out at them in the backyard. The guilt would overwhelm me to the point of committing myself to doing all their chores for them so that they could play for a bit longer.
Now that they are homeschooled and spend nearly all day outside when it's not freezing-we do chores together, then move outside for some
play and learn time.

And, with them outside soaking it all within, the insides stays as it was. No dirtier, No cleaner. This is a great blessing!
