it's beginning to be apparent that the neighbors are filling their kids heads with popular homeschool myths. i guess they had to put out the fire somehow. i'm sure when we started homeschooling the neighbor kids went to their parents and said "those kids down the street aren't going to school anymore- can we do that?"
"no dear, they will likely sprout two heads and eat their dog within a year."
so the proliferation of lies continues.
today samantha ran into a girl in the yard next door. she, being the bully that she is, said, "you guys only have two friends."
we laughed about it at dinner. we joked that the next time we run into her we should pretend that we have forgotten our native tongue. just start beeping, clicking, and whistling.
"me forgot for to how to talk english. no smart at home- need school."
being away from constant contact with peers has freed the kids from her bullying(indeed she bullied them plenty when they were public schooled). it's nice to be so free from the clutches of peer pressure and bullying that we laughed until we were crying. i think when she encounters bully-girl again i hope it'll be something more to laugh about at dinner.

funny, because my kids have only a few friends, but they do play (and fight) with each other. Why do that with other people while they are learning to simply deal with each other.
Later, when they encounter a situation of a bully and them, perhaps they can see right through them and just disappear from that moment.
Bullies, as we know, are so unhappy that they MUST point out some fault, however untrue, in every next person just to try and lift themselves because they are like a stone and not a feather.
People have such a hard time coping with others who choose to do things apart from the mainstream. But, isn't it funny how everyone is always claiming to be so "different" and outside the mainstream? Oh well - your kids are awesome, and they'll do fine, because they have loving and involved parents...keep up the great work!
why do some people feel so defensive to homeschoolers?
every time i say i want to hs they pause and get their guard up.....

What a gift it is to have two real friends anyway.
I heard a friend tell a guest (who had been home schooled as a child) at a party that homeschoolers were "socially retarded". Ouch. That stung. I know the home school lady was shocked someone was that blunt, and in my opinion, rude.
I'd enjoy hearing the experiences your family has had from transitioning from public to home school.
