swine flu shots "scarce"

all the stories i'm hearing about people who want a shot but can't get one remind me of a marketing lesson chris taught me a few years ago.
when the iphone made it's first debut chris taught me about limited release.
it's a marketing term taken from the film industry. when a company releases a new product they don't bring all they've got...they hold back most of thier units. so all the shelved units get sold and many many customers are told, "i'm sorry, the iphone is no longer available. we are expecting a shipment on monday." this creates a stronger desire in the customer to own this rare and hard to get item.
in the swine flu's case, the hard to get flu shot is also compounded by a "boogie man" complex. everyone is scared to death of the swine flu.
i've yet to meet or know someone who has actually gotten it, let alone suffered from disasterous effects. the only people i know who "have" it are self diagnosing or calling it in to their doctors for them to diagnose over the phone.
margaret's office is seeing alot of normal flu cases trying to see if they have the rare h1n1 strain. if fear wasn't compounded by the media they would probably have stayed home.
"mommy, tell me about the boy who cried, 'west nile virus', then 'SARS', then 'avian flu"
part of me is worried about when he's actually going to cry "wolf!!!" but since the southern hemisphere made it through swine flu with nary a hiccup- i'm pretty sure this is not the time.

you forgot to mention the fact that the shot comes with a surprise gift.... some have received neruological diseases, weakness, numbness/tingling in their legs, arms. unsure what exactly caused these symptoms, but low and behold.... they started insidiously 3-10 days after they got the flu shot..... dont jump the band wagon!

I think you've pegged this one right. Fear is a poor leader!!

Nice to "meet" you, btw...I'd love to see a pic of your Mother Teresa costume posted when you're done with your celebration!

I have a friend here that her children did indeed get the h1n1. Only her 3 yo was hosptilized for dehydration. This same child always gets pretty sick. However he others were ok no worse than average flu the momsaid. ALSO the mom is nursing so that helped her. But she nor I will get the vax!
