communism for kids!

i'm starting to notice a trend in my kids' world. it seems like everyone is getting treats for doing next to nothing special. if my kid wants a trophy for any sport, all he/she has to do is merely sign up for an athletic team. they don't have to compete, or win, or lift a pinky to get a trophy. for example, there is a kid on max's team (chris coaches max) that just walks off the field when he's tired. it doesn't matter if it's the middle of practice or the middle of the game. he'll just lumber off and sit in his mom's chair under an umbrella with his bottled water. and he'll get a trophy at the end of the season!
another example of the creeping communism is found in my kids' public school. each week one student in each class is picked to be the "husky of the week". for the first few times my kids won this supposed honor, i'd tell them how proud i was, i'd take them out to dessert, i'd tell grandparents. well, later, when i read that the class delinquint was "huskie of the week" in the class newsletter i had a chat with my child.
"wow, telulah must have had a good week! she's husky! that's great!"
"well, actually, she was on red for three days."
"what!?! how did she get husky?"
"she hasn't gotten to be husky yet, so her name was one of the only ones in the hat."
"she picks 'huskies' out of a hat?"
"yeah, you just raise your hand if you haven't been husky, she writes your name down and throws it in a hat and picks."
"hmmm. do you feel special when you are husky?"
"nah, not really."

so why does the school do husky of the week when the kids see through it just as much as i do?
i've half a mind to go have a talk with school administration about this, and when i do, i'll post the results.
