this adult tooth growing in is acting REAL childish. not only is it WAY behind where it should be and therefore not pushing the baby tooth out, it's also pointing down his throat. so we've started a coin jar going to his orthodontics bills that are no doubt on the horizon.
my question is, when? when is the right time to address the straightening of teeth? i've heard some people start as early as kindergarten. then they have to suffer through YEARS of adjusting to a growing mouth while straightening what's already in. while others seem to just wear braces for a couple of years when they are teens and get it over with short and sweet.
whatever we do, i'm going to get more than a few opinions because in this economy a shrewd orthodontist will want me to spend money fixing an ever changing mouth. he's got his boat to take care of you know, and let's not forget little suzie's "broadway bound" lessons. i want to find an honest orthodontist who's not always thinking of his bottom line.

Liz - call me about this when you have a moment. Two of mine are in braces, and Rory already had his (for several years!) I was adamant in my opinion that we would not do years and years of braces, and my insistence paid off. He had a horrible mouth and has required other stuff, but I do think if you're clear with your doc, you can minimize the damage to your pocketbook while making sure they get what they need.
susan, i'll call sometime tonight if i can.
My oldest two will be getting braces this fall. We already went one round with the oldest in 2nd grade on her top front six, and her mouth is a royal mess. It was meant to be done in stages, so as not to have to have teeth pulled and major spacing problems later. I can honestly say I'd hate to see how bad her mouth would look now if we hadn't done just that little bit then. I love our ortho; if you want his info, let me know. I hear you on the funds...KA-CHING!! $$igh.
ask mom about the MD who's sister is a dominican in nashville. he was attending daily mass at 6:30 at IHM... he will be honest. no extra trips to confession for him.
maybe he can give you some advice. he might be moving to denver. so act fast!
i think he is a maxillofacial surgeon. and that would be someone from whom i'd like an opinion.
dr pausa plays soccer with jerome on sundays at pinecrest. he's a mf surgeon too. he's the one that gave henry the free jaw xray(he doesn't take insurance) and also stitched george's lip up for free. i think i'd like to talk to him if he's willing to sit with us.
