thursday

we got on the road at about 10:30. i worked on putting earflaps on max's hat. i had to knit without looking because it makes me so carsick to knit, read, sew, or do anything i enjoy while riding in the car. it took awhile to knit, but i made some improvement on my no-look knitting skills.
we passed the "goats on a roof" near tiger georgia sometime after noon.
our van emerged from the great smoky mountain national forest and into town at about 2:45.
gatlinburg was still asleep as it was still only thursday. the strip was bare. we ate in a oddly quiet "no way jose's". then to buy some more time, since our condo wasn't ready, we went grocery shopping.
i bought stuff for dinner that night and breakfast the next day. as we loaded up on potatoes i felt the produce guy staring at us.
"you know that's organic?"
"yep"
"oh."
i should say that the food city store in gatlinburg has an organic section about as big as my fridge. and i should also say it's ten times bigger now than it was a year ago.
we got to our condo and unloaded our stuff. we had a nice view since the trees in the back were all bare. the kids felt cooped up from all day in the car, so we sent them outside to run it off. they stayed behind the condo on the hillside making forts out of sticks and whatnot. i started dinner and laid down. it got dark and we called the kids in. chris' family showed up and we sat down to dinner. after dinner we sat in the living room and caught up. we talked of our plans for the next day- skiing and whatnot. we got the kids to bed and headed to the adjoining condo to watch tv and wait for the boudreauxs. we were watching and praying about the buffalo plane crash when they arrived. the boudreauxs got settled- matthew had started in on a short stomach bug during their last hour of the trip.
chris set up the bed and we all turned in for the evening- excited about the next days entertainment.
