tim,
i'm sorry we tainted the races. we did it unknowingly. our neighbor helped
the boys with their cars bc he had tools we don't have. i sent two tubes of
lubricant over to their house so he could help them apply it. he applied
both kinds and did test runs. he sent both tubes back saying that the short
tube of lube worked the best and to apply some before we raced as the boys
had run the cars so much that most if not all the lube was worn off.
so i came this morning and was just about to apply some lube from the short
white tube when i heard the news about graphite being illegal. i checked
the tube and tom smith came to my resue with some teflon.
i warned my neighbor, as his son races sometime in march, not to use
graphite. he said that graphite was legal in their district- "appalachia"
or something. they are the cubscout troop from sycamore. so i'm sorry for
all the controversy. we truly weren't trying to claim a prize by being poor
sports. i'll admit, it was fun to watch. but i would have been more
vigilant about what was used if i knew it was going to cast poor light on my
boys reputation.
sorry again,
elizabeth

You all were not the only ones and the message was not specifically meant to
point anyone out. I think it is confusing even though the district rules
clearly state what is legal and what is not. Our district has stricter
rules than others, I guess. I glad you all had a good time
Tim

So silly that I'm chiming in here on Pinewood derby stuff! But I feel like I'm an expert!
anyway, how sad that you can't use the graphite! The teflon makes the axles and wheels slow down. We are allowed to use either, but accidentally used teflon one year instead of graphite. Everything ran so slow!
Did you smoke all the other cars while using the graphite?
p.s. The boy in the first pictures is a Peak CLONE! Amazing.

they smoked them like old dry pinestraw. it was so fun to watch bc last year henry's car didn't even cross the finish line a couple of times.
the unfortunate thing was that they didn't dq the boys until after the finals. therefore, there were alot of boys whose cars should've been in the finals- their dad's were none too happy with that.
btw- henry is the boy in the first pic and i've gotten "he looks like fr. joe" more than a few times.
hey, I remember when you named him Henry and how I loved that name! We have a Henry now too!
Take care.
